Organize Your Home for the New Year
Hello January!
I bet we are all still settling in from all the fun activities and parties we had during the holidays. Now that our gifts have been opened, our tree has been put away and we are all back to work and nagging that we wish we had a vacation, maybe it’s time to do some new years clean up and get rid of some of the old stuff we no longer need.
Let’s start this new year fresh, bright and clean!
To make room in your home for that bright, new you, here are household things you should really leave behind in 2017.
- Worn-Out Linens and Textiles
Let’s stop with the hoarding and get rid of those old towels or even your extra bed linens and tablecloths can be donated to a local aid organization.
It’s time to get some new linen.
We all have a soft spot for our first phone or Walkman that we used to take with us to school, but seriously, it’s time to let go.
No one uses VCRs or CDs anymore. So, you can say goodbye to those in addition to your floppy disks, USB sticks, old Nokia phone…
- Extra or Expired Toiletries
This will be good for your skin and your home.
Any gross makeup or expired lotions or that mascara you bought 6 months ago, those can all go away.
Why are you saving empty perfume bottles? Make some space for new bottles and new makeup.
We don't mean the classics. We mean bad coffee table books you got as gifts or even textbooks from freshman year. Your local library will be happy to have them.
Wire hangers are no good for your wardrobe. You probably got them for free from the cleaners. Busted!
We all believe that clothing holds memories, but it won’t be any use to us when we no longer have space in our closet. If you haven’t worn a piece of clothing in a year, donate it to make room for new attire.
It’s time to go through all your stashed mail, greeting cards, paper notes, business cards and paychecks and start shredding.
Save some trees and enroll in online statements and billing. It will be more convenient for you and less messy.
Old pillows are bad for your back and your skin. Toss it out, honey!
You hated that teacup your great aunt gave you? Do you still hate it? Well, it has to go. The same goes for leaky travel mugs, plastic containers with missing lids, chipped glassware and plates, stained silverware and the list goes on.
