Ideas for Decorating the Bedroom
You’ve moved into your new home and unpacked all the boxes…but all the bedrooms are a bland white color! Now it’s time to paint and make your house feel more like a home. There are so many color options and swatches when you walk into the paint store, which is the right one for you? Here are some ideas that will make your new house feel like your beautiful, cozy home.
Your room is the room you go to get away from the kids, to unwind, to relax and sleep. If you have a small master bedroom paint it a lighter color and accent it with light curtains. Light colors make the room seem bigger than it really is. If you have a bedroom that is large but you want it to have a more cozy feel, then paint your walls with a warm color and accent the bed and curtains with patterns.
There are a few things to think about when decorating the bedroom. Have a nightstand that is as tall as your mattress and in the morning you won’t be breaking your arm trying to find your alarm clock. Position your furniture with the walls to maximize your floor space.
A Teenager’s Room
A teenager spends much time in their room if allowed. You see in the movies and in real life that they do almost everything in there: have friends over, eat, homework, and of course sleep. To make your teenagers room look good, choose a light but neutral color to brighten the room, chose a duvet cover for a more grown-up look, and minimal to no decorative pillows. Unless your teen is one of the few that keeps their room clean and bed made pretty consistently then it’s a good rule of thumb to have no decorative pillows. Otherwise, the decorative pillows just add to a messy room.
A Children’s Room
Children grow so fast, and so does their taste. Chose a paint color and furniture that your child won’t outgrow every few years with taste or height. A child is always learning whether it be clean-up or how to tie their shoes. To keep the clutter from growing have a simple chest to put your child’s toys in and make clean up easy. Instead of floor or table lamps in the room that your young one can easily knock over when playing have wall or ceiling fixtures that can’t be pulled or knocked down.
Guest Bedroom
When your parents, in-laws, or friends come to visit you want to make sure they are in a comfortable room that they won’t complain about. Include some entertainment in the bedroom for your guests to wind down with at the end of the day or to help start their day with a television or magazines in the room. If you have a small guest bedroom use multi-purpose furniture to make the most of your space. A comfortable futon will keep your guests happy when sleeping, and can also be a couch for a daytime TV session or book read.
