Hosting Thanksgiving at your New Home
Thanksgiving is the time of year where family and friends gather to celebrate this day and of course, eat delicious food.
Hosting Thanksgiving can be exciting yet difficult, especially if it is your first time.
If Thanksgiving seems intimidating, here are some essentials that hopefully will make it less so.
Don’t reject some help from friends and family. If they want to bring some food, let them bring it. It will help you out and save you some pressure.
- Prepare as much as you can ahead of time.
Preparing things last minute can be stressful. Check what foods can be prepared ahead of time and do so. If you can’t fully prepare a dish ahead of time, check its ingredients and set them aside.
- Don’t go overboard with new recipes.
Thanksgiving is known for its traditional foods, don’t change or mix it up. Stick with the traditional foods and focus on cooking a yummy turkey.
- Start early on setting for dinner.
You can prepare your dinner table and silverware ahead of time and you can also set up all your decorations. This will save you time the next day and will give you something less to worry about.
Set up for cocktails. This will keep guests entertained. Make sure you have wine chilling in the fridge or a pitcher of sangria ready to be poured.
- Don’t make a big deal over appetizers.
Thanksgiving dinner is all about the turkey, don’t stress about the appetizers. You can either request someone to bring a dish or put some crackers or chips with dip or even a bowl of fresh veggies.
- It’s OK to buy parts of your meal.
If there is something you don’t know how to cook, you can always buy it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying a few pieces of the meal especially if it makes your day more relaxing.
To avoid missing anything, make a checklist of what you need to do, things to buy from the store, what to prepare and also a schedule of timings. You can even set up your alarm to make sure you don’t miss anything in the oven like the turkey for example.
Don’t spend all your time in the kitchen. Make sure you schedule some time for yourself to shower and get ready. Don’t forget that you are the host, so you have to look and smell good!
Most important piece of advice is to relax and have fun. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when needed, make some room for laughter and jokes and above all enjoy the day and the people you are surrounded with.
Wishing you a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!
